This makes me feel better about my own craft vs. how much time I have spent on it. Maybe I need to plan on more editing than I even spent on creating!Robert Treskillardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17767228138541201198noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9896011.post-62759306193819405472008-01-22T22:50:00.000-07:002008-01-22T22:50:00.000-07:00"...the characters seemed real to me at last. I think I'll become a better person if I learn to love even the worst of my characters. too. ...readers just might love them too. And that might actually help make the world a better place..."

I like the ideas behind this quote in Jeffrey's answer to how he knew when he was finished revising Auralia. All humans are imperfect and to have characters reflecting that in stories makes them someone we can relate to even if the characters are not human per se. And for even the "bad" guys to have something good about them is also serves that purpose as well. In my experience no one is fully evil or fully good we are all a mix to some degree though the proportion of each varies in different people.

If I can relate to the characters in a story I find it more enticing and I want to continue reading because I want to learn how they will handle their situation. I learn to love the ones I can relate to and will follow a series if I truly find characters that appeal to me. And I agree with Jeffrey if we learn to see the good even in those fictional characters who seem to be beyond hope we cna learn to see that and encourage it in others which I think definitely makes the world a better place.

MelissaAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08885416877999731273noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9896011.post-23333535565171344262008-01-22T17:35:00.000-07:002008-01-22T17:35:00.000-07:00Awesome interview!I love this line: "If I write ab...Awesome interview!

I love this line: "If I write about darkness without acknowledging the possibility of grace, I'm being dishonest."

So true. Even the villans seem to need that hint of goodness and grace in them. Because any of us could be the villan without Christ.Rachel A.
