I've spent the better part of the last two and a half hours on this, and that's only counting tonight! Tina and Mar both spent much of that time helping me out with the template as well. I think there are still some tweaks to go, so if you see something odd let me know in comments and I'll sic my tech team on it! :D
The photo is one taken by my daughter.

It looks great! These are probably the "tweaky" things you have yet to work on, but here are some things I noticed:
The top border looks odd not going all the way across.
It looks like there's an outline of a square on the part of the border that doesn't have words.
There are no margins on either side of the page - the words bump straight up against them.
You're more tech savvy than I am. I tried to change my template and it was a mess.
It's a little gimpy in Firefox; the side banner is on top of the posts, so I had to scroll through all of that. I love the colors, though. I like it a lot better than the old one.
Very nice! I thought I was on the wrong page.
Katie...yeah, I'd prefer the header going straight across as well. These were the pixel sizes it said to use, so...gotta see about that. And the lack of side margins I had noticed.
Maripat, I am NOT tech savvy. If you saw how many hours and how many people it took to get this up--well, let me say it was my idea and that's about it. No, wait. I made the header in photoshop.
EJ, that's interesting. Tina was using Firefox last night and she was seeing it looking good when I was still seeing mumbojumbo. I'll have to check back on that. I do have Firefox on my other computer.
Fiorinda, thanks. I'm hoping we'll soon have spring here. At the moment this color scheme looks a little chilly for me, but I do like it better than blogger pink.
Any other comments?
I like it! I get the same problem as EJ in Firefox. In IE, it's just fine.
I dreaded changing templates in Blogger. Good for you for braving it.
EJ and Jean--now that I'm home and on Firefox I see what you mean. Mar already has her thinking cap on. And Jean, it has nothing to do with bravery. Fools wade in where angels fear to tread :P
Ooooh! I thought I was lost when I came in!
Very nice!
